CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

These postings are also available in alternative formats such as Large Print and OpenDyslexic. To request an alternative format, please email bex@mcknightid.com with the details of your request.

*PLEASE NOTE*

While some of these positions can be remote, due to Canadian labour laws regarding contract work and internships, we are only able to hire persons who are currently eligible to work in Canada. We recognize this places persons without status at a disadvantage, and we are currently working to find a solution.

Web Designer/ Developer [casual contract, per-project]

APPLY IF: You're an intermediate fullstack designer/developer with 3-5 years of Wordpress experience. Ideally, you are also familiar with Shopify and Webflow. You enjoy designing and developing websites, you love to get your hands dirty in some code, and don't need anyone to hold your hand through the process. You have an understanding of current WCAG guidelines, as well as best practices for SEO and inclusive design/development such as designing for screen readers (or are keen to learn!).

YOUR APPLICATION:   Send us a 1-page resume, your portfolio with links to sites you've designed/developed, and a short statement of interest including the following information:

- Your hourly rate ($CAD)—be specific. We don't shy away from talking about money, and neither should you. Value yourself and your work!
- Your experience/interest with inclusive/accessible design practices.
- Your preferred work style. How do you organize your projects? How do you like to receive feedback?

As this is a casual contract, we welcome applications from those who have their own freelance practice and are willing to white-label their work on a per-project basis.

Inclusive Design Intern [3-6 months, part-time, paid]

APPLY IF:  You're currently completing your design education or have recently graduated (within 1 year). This is an opportunity to put the skills you are learning into practice, and expand those skills to the world of inclusive and accessible design. Under the guidance of a 1-1 mentor, you will be assisting with a wide array of projects from branding and logo design to accessibility auditing, inclusive web development, accessible print design, inclusive event production, and more. We want you to have a hand in everything so you finish your internship with a wide array of experience.

YOUR APPLICATION:   Send us a 1-page resume, and a short statement of interest including the following information:

- Your desired hourly rate ($CAD)—be specific. We don't shy away from talking about money, and neither should you. Value yourself and your work!
- Your interest in inclusive/accessible design practices. What are 3 things you are hoping to learn through this internship?
- Your preferred work style. Do you like to work remotely or on-site? How do you organize your projects? How do you like to receive feedback?

* if you are still in school, please comment on your availability, based on your class schedule. We will always be as flexible as possible as we recognize the importance of education first—however, we need to know so we can plan!

Inclusive/Accessible Design Quality Control Analysts [on-call, per-project]

APPLY IF:  You have lived or work experience with any of the following: screen-reading technology, alternative format production (braille, large format, OpenDyslexic), inclusive event design, accessible web design practices (WAS, WCAG, etc), or any other relevant technologies.

YOUR APPLICATION:   Send us a 1-page resume, and a short statement of interest including the following information:

- Your experience with any of the inclusive design technologies/practices listed above or any other relevant experience you feel may be of benefit to our work
- Any relevant certifications (ex; WAS, CPACC, IAAP, CPWA, etc)

*If you are a member of a marginalized community based on any element of human difference (ex: age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, status, etc), please do not feel the need to disclose this information to us in your statement, unless you feel comfortable doing so. We respect your right to privacy and non-disclosure.

*Please be aware that these are on-call, short-term engagements that are paid on a per-project basis, as made available by our current workload. If you do not hold status in Canada, we still encourage you to apply and we will discuss alternative work arrangements as appropriate.
